It’s an age-old question: “How can I get a comfy sofa on my current budget?” With so many options available, here are some top tips to get you started.

Choose a fibre that works for you

When it comes to picking the material for your sofa there are some popular choices available. Settling on an artificial fibre such as polyester will provide you with a strong, durable material that will stand the test of time. However, as the fabric sees more wear, you will run the risk of seeing it flatten and lose a lot of the comfort that you may have initially enjoyed. If you prefer to go natural you can always focus on softer fillings such as goose feather, down, or a combination of both. While these are renowned for their comfort, they will require a lot more maintenance than an artificial fibre and tend to get a bit lumpy if they are not properly cared for.

Consider sprung seat cushions

If you’re looking to add more comfort beneath your cushions you could also consider the addition of sprung seating. This is where coil springs are added to the furniture, allowing for a greater level of depth and making the sofa much more comfortable and long-lasting. However, adding these can prove expensive so they are normally only used on high-end or antique items. It is also critical that you fully road-test the furniture and read reviews as – at the lower end of the scale – cheaper coils cannot take much wear and tear.

Think about a high-resilient foam

If you’re looking for a filling that is durable and comfortable, high-resilient foam may be a useful option. Hard wearing and flexible, the foam will fully mould around your form, supporting your full weight and springing back in place when you sit up. However, although it can prove to be expensive initially, it will last much longer in the long run. This should be considered when making your decision.

Space and seating

Once you’ve purchased your new sofa, you will still have plenty of options available to make your new seating more comfortable once it has been broken in. These can include accessories such as cushions, throws or covers to help compliment the colour and design of your new sofa. If you want to stretch out and relax, you can also consider the addition of a chaise lounge or footrest to really maximise your comfort.

Here at Nabru, all of our seats are made from high-resilient foam. You can check out our website to learn more about the options we have available.
